Land Acknowledgement

Gilded Whisker is based in amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton), on Treaty 6 territory and within the traditional territories and homelands of the Cree, Dene, Nakota Sioux, Saulteaux, and Métis peoples. This acknowledgement is not offered out of courtesy alone. It begins from the fact that this land was not empty, that its histories did not end with settlement, and that the structures created by colonization still shape who is protected, who is displaced, and who is allowed to belong without explanation. I live and work within those structures, and I do not treat the benefit I draw as morally neutral. I cannot resolve that with language. I can only try to live and work in ways that do not reproduce erasure, normalize dispossession, or turn occupation into background.
