This path unfolds with greater directness, carrying a concept already seen toward finished form. First in language, as the direction is returned and clarified. Then in visual direction, through the Tableau. Finally in portraiture, when the finished work is brought to Reveal.
What distinguishes the Directed Commission is not a lesser degree of care, but a different point of departure. It begins with a vision already in hand and carries that vision forward with precision, restraint, and fidelity to what has been named from the outset.

Listen
We begin in conversation. You bring the concept as you already hold it: the mood, the setting, the role, the atmosphere, and the visual truth you want the portrait to carry. From there, the Atelier gathers what has been named and begins to surface the direction that must be carried forward.
Reflect
The work turns inward, toward precision. The concept is returned in language, so that what has been imagined may be tested against what has been heard and understood.
Envision
The work turns outward, toward form. The Tableau brings the concept into view through two closely related visual directions, each faithful to the same underlying idea, so that the path may be recognised before final creation begins.
Create
With the concept clarified in language and resolved in form, the work is carried into portraiture. Here the Atelier moves from direction to completion, composing the final image with discipline, detail, and fidelity to the vision set from the outset.
Reveal
The finished work is returned in its final form. What began as a clear concept is now fully visible: composed with precision, resolved in feeling, and ready to endure.
Directed Artefacts
The Directed Commission places the work before you in a smaller set of forms, each serving a distinct part of realisation.
Concept The written artefact, gathering the patron’s stated direction into clear language so the work may begin from shared understanding.
Tableau The visual artefact, presenting two closely related variations on the same concept so atmosphere, composition, and visual logic may be recognised before final creation begins.
Reveal The finished portrait in its final visual form, prepared for fine printing and enduring display.
The Two Accordances
The Directed Commission includes two formal points of accord. The first takes place at Reflect, when the written Concept Narrative is placed before you. The second takes place at Envision, when the Tableau is presented.
At each point, you are invited to recognise what feels true, clarify what needs correction, and confirm what should move forward. In this way, the work is steadied twice: first in direction, then in form.
